June 30, 2006, Newsletter Issue #117: The Callaway FT-3 Driver

Tip of the Week

Two pro golfers have won recent tournaments using the Callaway FT-3 driver. One is Annika Sorenstam, who scored an 8-shot victory at last year's Samsung World Championship tournament at Bighorn Golf Club in Carlsbad, California. The other is Michael Campbell, who took top prize at this year's U.S. Open, played in April at the fabled Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Caroliina.

The new Callaway driver uses fusion technology, in which a super-light carbon body is fused with an ultra-hot titanium clubface. The fusion is so well-achieved that it frees up 44 grams of discretionary weight, about one quarter of the weight of the clubhead, which can be used to achieve the desired shape of the shot.

All of the new features of this club have been set to USGA limits of Characteristic Time, whihch gives it the ability to generate maximum ball speed and hit longer shots. The clubhead itself is the largest allowed by the U.S.G.A., the full maximum 460 cc.
