November 7, 2003, Newsletter Issue #88: Shanking

Tip of the Week

Shanking is the discouraging act of hitting the ball on the neck, or shank, of the club. There are many things that will cause shanking, but basically it is a matter of muscular freezing at the ball. It can be the result of a faulty stnce with your weight shoved forward on your toes instead of being distributed back from the ball of the foot to the heel. This is the first phase to check if your are guilty of shanking.
